Preheat oven to 350 °F. Combine applesauce and baking soda; set aside. In large mixing bowl, cream butter with sugar. Stir in egg, cinnamon, salt, and cloves. Blend in applesauce mixture. Mix in flour and raisins. Pour into buttered 9" x 5" loaf pan. Bake for 60 to 70 minutes or until tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove bread to cooling rack.
